Under limited supervision of site supervisor, is responsible for recruitment, retention, training and oversight of WIC CPA team at the Charleston County Health Department. Performs Medical Nutrition Therapy for high risk patient referrals and approve special and metabolic formulas. Participate in quality assurance processes for nutrition services.

Management and Supervision: Recruits, hires, orients, trains and supervises the CPAs providing WIC services. Performs quality assurance activities such as observations, chart reviews and program audits. Provides 1:1 mentoring and education to all direct reports. Documents all supervision and development activities using the EPMS system, supervisory counseling, audit forms, observation reviews, counseling notes, and other programmatic reviews. Maintains supervisory documentation in support of personnel actions and development.

Nutrition Care: Will Assess and diagnose the nutritional status of clients with high risk and/or complex nutrition-related medical conditions referred from WIC, MCH programs, as well as other health care providers. Develops and implements nutrition interventions including counseling, follow-up, referral, and coordination of care with other health care providers. Provides and documents care utilizing the Nutrition Care Process and according to program policy. Assists with WIC certifications as needed in support of team goals and objectives. Performs certifications and anthropometric/biochemical measures in accordance with Agency, Program and CLIA guidelines. Consults with onsite Nutritionist IV to coordinate care of high risk participants receiving Medical Nutrition Therapy.
 
Food Packages and Special Formulas: Approves, documents, distributes and tracks special and metabolic formulas per program policy and procedures. Orders special and metabolic formulas for drop shipment to clinics. Provides consultation and technical assistance related to special formulas to staff and health care providers. Enters, updates, and issues food benefits for high risk clients and clients receiving special formulas.

Consultation, Technical Assistance and Outreach: Provides professional expertise, consultation and technical expertise and assistance to health care team members, health care providers, community organizations, staff and the public. Participates in the orientation, and training nutrition staff as requested. Serves as a preceptor for dietetic interns completing supervised professional practice experiences in the region.

Quality Assurance: Assists in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of WIC/ MCH nutrition services. Assists with quality assurance processes for WIC program nutrition services, i.e., RD high risk documentation, WIC certifications, nutrition education, and special formulas.

 Professional Development and Training: Updates professional skills and knowledge to assure delivery of quality nutrition services. Participates in continuing education opportunities and Public Health Preparedness activities. Completes and maintains advance certification (s) required for the position. Completes PCAS, SCEIS and other required reports.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements:  A bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics or community nutrition and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting; or a bachelor’s degree in any field and registration by the American Dietetics Association and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting. Some positions require registration with the American Dietetics Association and a valid license from the South Carolina Panel for Dietetics.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, foods and nutrition, community nutrition, dietetic or related field and a Registered Dietitian (R.D or RDN); or a Bachelor’s degree in any field and completion of an accredited didactic program in dietetics and a Registered Dietitian (R.D or RDN). Must have a valid license to practice dietetics from the SC Panel of Dietetics or be eligible to apply for a license to practice. 

Preferred Qualifications
One year of Public Health experience preferred.
Two years supervisory experience preferred.
